About Dr. Long
While knocking around the University of Regina in the early 1980's, I picked up a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I found the advanced courses in biology to be much more practical and interesting.
In 1982 I was accepted into the Western College of Veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. Veterinary school was the best and worst of times. There was tons of work and pressure offset by the fun I had with my classmates, professors, and patients. Graduating in 1986 fulfilled my lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian.
Early on in my veterinary career I picked up a hobby that I still enjoy. I travel around the world to provide veterinary care at sled dog races. Sled dogs are amazing athletes with unique medical needs, and the people who own them are a varied and interesting group.
As a sled dog veterinary volunteer I travel in North America and Europe each winter. Sled dog races are held in some of the most beautiful places on earth. Cold, but beautiful.
Every year I attend lecture and seminars on new ideas and research in veterinary medicine. These continuing education conferences help me keep up to date on the latest advances in veterinary medicine.
